Majors

All majors in the College of Liberal Arts require at least 124 credits, with at least 62 credits earned at a four-year institution and at least 42 credits of upper-division work (junior or senior standing, 300- or 400-level at UNLV). In addition, the last 30 credits must be done as a declared major in the College of Liberal Arts, with no out-of-state transfer work.

No course from a student's major can be used in the Core (e.g., a Political Science major cannot use a POS course to satisfy the Constitutions requirement). With the exception of the 42-credit upper-division requirement, no course may be used to satisfy more than one requirement or be otherwise double-counted (e.g., a Psychology major can use PSY 497 to apply towards the needed 42-credit upper-division requirement, but ANT 301 cannot be used as both a Social Science and a Foreign Culture).

Majors in the College of Liberal Arts must take two semesters of the same foreign language or two semesters of approved foreign culture courses. The only exception is for English. English majors must take FOUR semesters of the same foreign language. NOTE that neither American Sign Language (also known as Ameslan or ASL) nor a computer language can be substituted for the Foreign Langauge requirement.

REMINDER
As of Fall 2004, most prefix and course numbers have changed. Make sure you are following your Catalog of matriculation and refer to the 2004-2006 Catalog for these changes (pay close attention to the course titles when registering).

The links below will take you to examples of the 2006-2008 degree requirements worksheets for the majors shown. Students may not graduate under a catalog more than ten years old. For worksheets prior to 2004-2006, please see the Wilson Advising Center in the Central Desert Complex, Building 2, Room 215. Please see an advisor for more information.
