Kristin Slonsky was born in California, but she spent her childhood on various American military bases in the Philippines, Hawaii, and Japan. She is proud to be both a fourth generation polyglot and a 'third culture kid'. She relocated to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada in 2000, where she eventually obtained a bachelor'
s degree in Classics with First Class Honors from Dalhousie University in May of 2004. After living in Las Vegas, Nevada and Sagamihara, Japan, she returned to Dalhousie University in 2006 to obtain a master'
s degree in Classics. Her master's thesis, "The Manipulation of Fear in Julius Caesar'
s Bellum Gallicum", involved the painstaking translation and comprehensive analysis of all eight books of Caesar'
s BG.
She is a Visiting Lecturer of Latin, Greek, and Classics at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. She teaches elementary Latin I and II (LAT113, and LAT114), intermediate Latin (LAT 213) and elementary Greek (GRE113), and looks forward to teaching more upper level language classes in the future. Her research focuses mainly on the relationships between Romans and the various peoples dwelling along the periphery of Roman power during the Late Republic and how these associations affected their language development. She is currently working on a translation of the New Testament from the original Koine Greek.
