CHINESE AT UNLV

Why Study Chinese?

Knowledge of Chinese opens up one of the world's richest historical and cultural heritages. Mandarin Chinese, the official language of China's 1.3 billion people, is one of the five official working languages of the United Nations and standard language in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore.

The Chinese Program in the Department of Foreign Languages at UNLV offers you a unique opportunity to study and immerse yourself in Chinese language and culture.  The various courses offered will help you obtain language skills and knowledge about China, and ultimately prepare you for a much broader range of potential career paths.

Minor in Chinese

The Minor in Chinese Studies requires that you take a minimum of 18 credits of course work, of which at least 12 must be at the upper-division level (300-400). The courses are intended to provide substantial training in the Chinese language and culture. Selections of courses are to be made with the advice and counsel of the program advisor, and students should be aware that not all of the courses are offered every year so that early and careful planning is advised.
