Faculty and Graduate Student Travel Policies

The UNLV English Department Research Resources Committee and Dr. Megan Becker-Leckrone, chair, have outlined the policies for funding faculty, faculty in residence, and graduate student travel as follows:

(a) Tenure-line faculty will be funded up to a maximum of $1,100.00 for the first trip;

(b) Faculty in Residence (FIRS) will be funded up to a maximum of $750.00 for one trip only;

(c) Graduate students will be funded up to a maximum of $500.00 for one trip only, with the requirement that their names appear in the program as evidence of conference presentation; and

(d) Tenure-line faculty will have a second trip funded if moneys are remaining at the end of the second semester, according to a formula that will be determined at that later date.

To apply for funding, submit an itemized list of expenses (see Travel Checklist) to Dr. Becker-Leckrone via e-mail (meganb@unlv.nevada.edu) or place a hard copy of the request in her faculty mailbox. All requests must include:

(a) travel destination and dates;

(b) a statement explaining why the trip is being taken;

(d) the registration fee amount (which is not counted against the allocation amount).

If the Research Resources Committee notifies you that your travel funds request has been approved, submit pertinent receipts and a copy of the funding request to Michele Sanders, Departmental Travel Assistant (michele.sanders@unlv.edu), AFTER THE EVENT for processing and reimbursement. As indicated above, proof of conference presentation (e.g., a copy of the conference program listing the student's name) is also required for graduate students. If possible, this should be included in the initial request sent to Dr. Becker-Leckrone. If for some reason the graduate student is unable to provide proof of presentation at this time, s/he must do so when turning in trip receipts to Michele Sanders. Funds will not be disbursed until the graduate student provides proof of his/her participation in the conference.
